Meditation/ Mindfulness

Meditation should always be a part of yoga practice.

Even the simplest vinyasa (series of movement) should include breath and focus, it then becomes a moving meditation.

The last three of the Eight Limbs of Yoga (Patanjali) are Dharana – Object of focus, Dhyana – Connection with this object and Samadhi – Absorption.

Modern Mindfulness courses have removed the history and Sanskrit, but it’s the same principal, pared down to simple language and steps.

Yoga offers tools to help us to master this process :

Asana (postures) to relax the body

Pranayama (breath control) to prepare the breath and mental state

Mudra to channel energy

Chanting/Mantra to channel our mental wavelength

Bhavana to visualise and clarify our goal

Why Meditation?

When we channel energy inward, it is self-empowering, we can see clearly, our feelings, our goals are more relevant, we nurture a sense of ease that calms agitation and strengthens resolve.

When we practise regularly, body systems improve, gut health is closely linked to mood and stress, meditation reduces deep accumulated stress, we sleep a rested deep sleep and we are generally more content.

When we practice regularly and consistently, we can experience deep and lasting benefit in our daily lives.

Mediation is extremely personal so best in small groups or 1-to-1.
